Do you ever have to transfer files from one Mac to another via floppy disks? Perhaps you've needed to backup an application or data file onto a floppy, but it was too large to fit?
These are the situations SplitIt! was originally designed for. SplitIt! will break up any kind of file for you into whatever size you need, plus allow you to easily reassemble the pieces back into the original file.
How I use SplitIt?
It's simple. Simply drag and drop any file or application onto the SplitIt! program. You will be prompted for a size for SplitIt! to break the file into. By default, the size is 1.44 megabytes, which an ideal size to fit a piece on a single high-density floppy disk.
When you hit the 'Split' button, the program will then split the file up into pieces of the assigned size. It saves the pieces in the same folder as the original file.
To reassemble a file, select all the pieces and either drag and drop them into the SplitIt! program or else double-click on them. SplitIt! will them reassemble the pieces into the original file and store it in the same folder as the pieces. Be sure to have ALL the file fragments selected or else SplitIt! will report an error telling you to.

SplitIt! is shareware. You are free to use this product for a period of 30 days for free. If after 30 days you wish to continue using it, you must send in the shareware fee of $10 per single-user license or $150 for a site license.
If you have paid the registration fee for an earlier version of SplitIt!, then there is no need to register again -- this is a free upgrade for you.
How do I register?
Kagi handles the payment processing for SplitIt! This allows you to use credit cards and other convenient methods for payment.
In order to register, double-click on the Register program icon which accompanied SplitIt! Enter your name, e-mail address, and the number of single-user licenses that you would like to purchase. An option for purchasing a site license is also available. You can then print or save the information in order to send in your registration.
If paying with Credit Card or First Virtual, you can email or fax the data to Kagi. Their email address is sales@kagi.com and their fax number is +1 510 652-6589. You can either Copy the data from Register and paste into the body of an email message or you can Save the data to a file and you can attach that file to an email message. There is no need to compress the data file, it's already pretty small. If you have a fax modem, just Print the data to the Kagi fax number.
Payments sent via email are processed within 3 to 4 days. You will receive an email acknowledgement when it is processed. Payments sent via fax take up to 10 days and if you provide a correct internet email address you will receive an email acknowledgement.
If you are paying with Cash or US$ Check you should print the data using the Register application and send it to the address shown on the form, which is:

You can pay with a wide variety of cash from different countries but at present if you pay via check, it must be a check drawn in US Dollars. Kagi cannot accept checks in other currencies.
If you have a purchasing department, you can enter all the data into the Register program and then select Invoice as your payment method. Print three copies of the form and send it to your accounts payable people. You might want to highlight the line that mentions that they must include a copy of the form with their payment.
Kagi can not invoice your company, you need to act on my behalf and generate the invoice and handle all the paperwork on your end.

Frequently Asked Questions
When I drag a file onto the SplitIt! icon, nothing happens!
You may need to rebuild your desktop database. This is done by holding down the command key and the option key while restarting your computer. When you drag a file onto the SplitIt! icon, the icon should darken (i.e. highlight).
The file fragments SplitIt! created won't fit on my floppy disk!
The size of the file fragments are optimized for a new, unused floppy disk. With use, the available space on a disk can be 'fragmented', preventing you from copying large files onto them. To solve this problem, reformat the disk by selecting it in the Finder and choosing the 'Erase Diskﾉ' option from the Special menu.
If the problem persists, try entering a smaller fragment size or try a different disk.
